It's easy. Every time you list something on Scoodi between 7 May and 15 July, you'll receive one entry into the competition. We'll announce the winner in July.

Sustainable living is all about balancing your impact on the world's eco-system. Natural systems use only the resources they need and produce no waste; it's a balanced cycle that can be maintained indefinitely.

Manmade systems are not so balanced; we consume non renewable resources, we use those resources inefficiently and we leave behind waste. Eventually we will run out of resources if we don't take some action.

• Reduce the energy you use, the resources you consume, the new stuff you buy and the waste you produce.
• Reuse the stuff you no longer need, by listing it all on Scoodi or finding an alternative use for it.
• Recycle only the household waste that can't be reused.
• Act-local by shopping locally, buying local produce, reusing locally.
• Offset only the waste that you can't do something about yourself.

One measure of the waste we produce is equivalent tones of CO2 (carbon dioxide). The average Australian produces 12T of CO2 emissions each year including cars, flights and all household emissions. In fact, Australia is one of the highest carbon emitters per capita.

Even when you try hard to reduce your carbon footprint, there are probably still going to be unavoidable carbon emissions. That's where carbon offsets come in. Conditions

1. Open to Scoodi members with a permanent Australian address and aged 18 or over excluding associates of Scoodi and their immediate families.
2. All eligible applicants, who have listed an item on Scoodi between 7 May 2008 and 15 July 2008, will automatically be entered into the free prize draw.
3. Members will receive one entry for each item listed.
4. Items that are given away or sold before the closing day will still be counted.
5. Items that are deleted from the site before the closing date will not be counted.
6. Winners will be drawn at random from all eligible entries on 16 July 2008 and will be notified by email within 7 days of the draw date. The judge's decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
7. There is one prize. A 12T carbon offset provided by todae.com.au.
8. The promoter reserves the right to provide an alternative prize of equal or greater value.
9. The prize will be posted to the winner.
10. In the unlikely event a winner cannot be contacted by 21 July 2008, after all reasonable efforts have been made; the prize will no longer be available to that winner without any liability to the promoter. The promoter will draw another winner at random from the remaining eligible entries.
11. The prize is not transferable and there is no cash alternative.
12. The winners may be asked to participate in future publicity in connection with this promotion.
13. The user-name of the winner will be published in the following month's Scoodi newsletter.
